Copper, collaboration, and career growth: Wieland Chase interns visit Wieland Concast
Birmingham, OH — August 11, 2025 — Wieland Chase’s summer internship program concluded on Monday, Aug. 11, with a visit to Wieland Concast’s Wakeman plant in north-central Ohio. Three Trine University engineering students, along with Jacob Haller, a full-time mechanical engineer at Wieland Chase, were hosted by Jared Goran, Vice President of Operations at Wieland Concast. The group spent the day immersed in the world of copper alloys, seeing production up close and gaining insight into how sister companies across the Wieland Group collaborate.
For the students, all enrolled at Trine University in Angola, Ind., the visit reinforced their observations that a Wieland internship is far more than classroom theory or an addition to a résumé. “The engineering internship program at Wieland Chase has regularly brought value to both the company and the students who go through the program,” explained Haller. “Far beyond making copies and doing grunt work, our interns are exposed to real-world projects that affect the plant. This gives them a good reference point for the type of work that they may do as professionals, while also helping the company to identify and hire talented individuals in a competitive hiring market. It continues to be a genuine pleasure to be a part of this program.”
Brody Brodkorb, a Fall 2025 senior in electrical engineering, has built the foundation of his career on two summer internships with Wieland Chase. “I’ve been able to continue my dive into some very foundational skills that electrical engineers in industry are constantly utilizing,” he said. “I’ve been provided an environment to grow and learn professionally, and Wieland Chase has allowed me to take on meaningful projects that challenged my technical abilities and expanded my understanding of real-world applications. From PLC programming to collaborating with others in the plant, this internship has strengthened both my confidence and my capability as an aspiring engineer."
As Evan Eggering, also an electrical engineering senior, looks ahead to his professional career, he is excited about how his Wieland Group experience has built his knowledge and skills. “I’ve had the opportunity to gain real-world experience by working on hands-on projects directly in the plant,” he noted, “which has deepened my understanding of the operation of controls in the manufacturing processes. Beyond the technical skills, I’ve built strong relationships with the team at Wieland, making this internship both professionally and personally enriching."
A Fall 2025 junior in mechanical engineering, Logan Farley described his internship experience as “second to none.” He added, “I have experienced a kind, welcoming community that has gone above and beyond my expectations for an internship. In success and failure, I have learned how to research for projects as well as ask questions when needed. Wieland Chase and all the individuals here have given me a practical, hands-on knowledge backed by sound instruction."
The team at Wieland Concast is proud to congratulate these outstanding students for their commitment to the industry and their dedication to growing both academically and professionally. Their curiosity, determination, and enthusiasm for learning, along with the initiative they’ve already shown, embody the very qualities that will continue to shape the future of U.S. copper alloy manufacturing.
